Reflection Prompt: Summarize your learning for this term. How will you use the knowledge you have constructed to improve your use of technology for learning in your class and for your own personal and professional development?
Description:
I covered so many areas and the ones that stand dealt with: standards, ethics and professional growth. Reading more about the technology standards helped me to understand how and when they are effectively incoporated into the curriculum. Reading the scenarios helped to clarify their implementation. Ethics always comes up and the readings and charts gave me a greater understanding of many ways to look at 'fair use'. Professional growth was started by joining ISTE and nutured throughout the course. I heard from experts in the fields of technology, through the readings, and from teachers who implemented and shared their ideas on-line and in books or articles. I also learned from a diverse group of educators through our discusssions not only their perspective but also resources that they found helpful. Most of all it was their support and encouragement which was encouraged by Dr. Ward, the instructor, that made this a great learning experience.
Impact:
Through experiencing many aspects of the field of technology, I feel more confident on how to approach technology integrations with the teachers in my buildings. I had the opportunity to see so many applications and views that I understand better my administrators role and how to approach him for support. I have gained more knowledge in so many areas that I can build or expland on in our curriculum. Technology integration isn't an add on but its meant to be an integral part of learning. This is what I have to convey to my teachers. It's a tool for learning and not just a motivator. It's a way to collect data and then use that data to continue instruction. I feel more confidentin asking: What is your Purpose? What's the data you based your thoughts on? and How will technology help you reach your purpose, goal? I have more background to explain why these are important questions. So the information from the course has provided me with a better base to build on for the future.
Intent:
I have formulated a plan based on data and I will use several approaches to implement the plan to help our students gorw. I will start with Adminstration anout trainings and a more formalized approach to technology integration. Then I will talk to the building administration about in-house trainings or support. Teachers are the key to everyday application and I will approach them in groups or individually about planning and integrating technology effectively. These teachers are the data collectors and analyzers. I will also offer to present ideas to parents about the benenfit of technology and how to encourage its use outside of school. It will be an exciting year even if one of the above happens and promotes change in attitudes or programs.
